👋🏽 thanks for stopping by :)
i am a civic data scientist, sort-of journalist and professor. i hold a lot of hats, but almost everything i do involves data and how to use those very never-ending rows and cells to understand, interpret and better society.
Now, I spend my time as an educator-practitioner.
Officially, I am the Data Editor at The Investigative Reporting Workshop, American University’s nonprofit and independent newsroom. Here, alongside emerging reporters, I support newsrooms around the country in telling powerful stories with data-driven methods.
As a professor, I teach classes at the intersection of AI, data science, quantitative methods and data journalism at American University’s Kogod School of Business & School of Communication.
I also co-teach Programming and Data for Policymakers at The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
When I am not on campus, I support the Courts & Communities project at Pew Charitable Trusts and data-driven work at Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, amongst other places.
